  • Saturday Style-A Right Royal Revelry

Okay so I love a good Royal wedding and I can’t imagine we are going to get one in this country for a good while-Harry if you are reading get in touch to remedy that! Well I don’t want to wait to drool over all that pomp and ceremony so thought I would bring you a little slice of Royal wedding bliss from around the world. Today we are looking at all of those European Royal families-there are loads of them, some of the areas I’ve never even heard of but they do know how to look fabulous 🙂

In 1965, Princess Beatrix became engaged to the German aristocrat Claus von Amsberg, a diplomat working for the German Foreign Office. Their marriage caused a massive protest during the wedding day in Amsterdam on 10 March 1966. Prince Claus had served in the Hitler Youth and was, therefore, associated by a part of the Dutch population with German Nazism.

A smoke bomb was thrown at the wedding carriage causing a violent street battle with the police. As time went on, however, Prince Claus became one of the most popular members of the  Dutch monarchy and his 2002 death was widely mourned.

Princess Mette Merit of Norway The couple married on 25 August 2001 at the Oslo Cathedral

Princess Annemarie of Parma married on 20 November 2010 in La Cambre Abbey.

In 1995, Marie-Chantal became engaged to Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece. She received a cabochon-cut sapphire and heart-shaped diamond engagement ring from the crown prince.

The ceremony was held on 1 July 1995 at St Sophia’s Cathedral in London. The bride wore a Valentino gown.

Attendees included many European royals and members of the Greek political party). The wedding was televised live in Greece leading to a rise in public support for the restoration of the monarchy in the country.

Mary Donaldson and Crown Prince Frederik married on 14 May 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral.

Mary wore a wedding gown designed by Danish designer Uffe Frank and had a small bridal party which included her two sisters and her friend Amber Petty.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The wedding took place on 19 June 2010. More than 1200 guests including royalty and statesmen from various countries were invited to the wedding ceremony which took place at Stockholm Cathedral.

After the wedding the newlyweds were driven through Stockholm in a coach and then rowed in the antique royal barge Vasaorden to the royal castle where the wedding banquet was held. On the evening before the wedding, there was a gala concert dedicated to the couple in the Stockport Concert Hall (where the Nobel Prizes are handed out).

More than half a million Swedes waved with Swedish flags and cheered the couple from in their cortege, from the church to the castle. The popularity of the monarchy exploded after the wedding,

Letizia Princess of Asturia. The wedding took place on 22 May 2004 in the Cathedral Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena in Madrid.

It was the first royal wedding in this cathedral. It had been nearly a century since the capital celebrated a royal wedding.

Mabel Wisse Smit and Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau married in Delft on 24 April 2004.

Because he did not ask the Dutch parliament for permission for the marriage, Prince Friso lost his membership of the Netherlands’ Royal House. Therefore, neither Prince Friso, Princess Mabel, nor their children are members of the Royal House or in the Dutch line of succession.

Princess Marie of Denmark The wedding took place on Saturday 24 May 2008.

Marie’s wedding gown was designed by Spanish-Italian fashion house Arasa Morelli, and was sewn by a Danish woman working for the company
