  • Wedding Dress Style Tips – Erica Stacey Bridal

Here on Love Me Love My Wedding, we aim to tackle issues and concerns that affect real brides and grooms. Yes we will feature a whole lot of loveliness but what’s the point if it’s not backed up with ideas, advice and inspiration that real couples can relate to?

We have a team of experts on hand to give you advice, guide you through your wedding preparation and make your journey to married life a prettier, stress free place.
Today let’s meet couture bridal gown designer, Erica Stacey, co founder of Erica Stacey Bridal, creators of unique, beautiful, individual wedding gowns. She offers a couture range, as well as her much lauded Ready to Wear collection that has been received extremely warmly.

When you see wedding dresses in magazines, on blogs or on catwalks, the models are usually size 6, flatchested, extra tall models. Yes, the designer may say that the styles go up to size 30-but how do you know what they look like in a bigger size? How do you know what styles will suit you if you are conscious of your tummy, or are very short or don’t like your arms?

Today we are picking Erica’s designer brain about dresses for girls with big chests. So all you bigboobed beauties out there stand by for top style tips from Erica and a real busty bride-the lovely Nichola, who commissioned Erica to design her perfect gown. We met Nichola when she went for her final fitting. So over to Erica-the floor is yours……

What style tips would you give to girls searching for their perfect dress if they have larger chests?

“Always consider the shape and structure of the dress and what sort of underwear it is possible to wear with the dress.   Brides do not necessarily have to rule out the strapless styles of dress however, make sure the dress has an inbuilt corset or make sure you can wear a good corset underneath.  Going for a bespoke option means the dress is made specifically for your size and shape.”

What styles should brides with larger chests avoid and why?

“Brides need to choose styles that compliment their natural shape.  High necklines can be a ‘no no’ for larger chested brides as this can make the chest look bigger.  Also something backless can be a problem if not structured correctly as it is difficult to wear a bra with this style of dress.”

What styles suit brides with bigger chests and why?

“Dresses with a soft scooped neckline or a V neckline work really well.  Opt for soft feminine styles maybe with flattering little sleeves.”

Do you have any brides with larger chests that you are designing a gown for at the moment and what is your remit?

“A bride approached us to make a bespoke, couture dress for her as she was struggling with the ‘high street’ options.  She wanted something pretty and feminine.   She had found a style that she really liked but when she tried it on it didn’t fit correctly.  The seams of the dress around the bust area did not sit in the right place.  We went through various options with her and created a design which had elements of the dress she like but we tailored it to her shape.”

What were the bride’s main concerns in the initial consultation?

“Her main concerns at the consultation was the fact that she needed to wear a certain bra on the day and she needed to make sure the bra could not be seen from the back.  The back of a brides dress is very important as all eyes are on the back during the ceremony.  She really wanted a ‘keyhole’ style back but we needed to make sure the back strap of the bra was not visible.”

What was the bride’s reaction when she first tried on the completed gown?

“She was absolutely thrilled.  We had managed to create a dress which reflected the style she liked and yet fit her shape perfectly.
We were delighted to have created the ‘dream’ dress for her.  She was really pleased that we had been able to produce a dress which made her feel confident as it was constructed to her body shape and yet still looked delicate and feminine.”
