How to look like a Diva in Your Wedding Photos

What does it take to look fabulous in wedding photos? Is it the lavish wedding dress? Is it the lovely hairstyle? Is it the exquisite jewellery? Is it the sumptuous bridal bouquet?

While all of these things matter, there is something even more important – how you feel and behave. Your posture and facial expressions speak volumes about your charisma and confidence, and all of this will show in your wedding photographs. If you want to look like a diva, you have to feel and act like one.

Luckily, we have a few simple guidelines that can shape you into a stunning, picture-perfect bride.

    Don’t slouch

Slouching is a huge no-no both on and off the camera. To make sure you’re not slouching, keep your shoulders slightly pulled back. Practice walking or sitting with your back straight, so the posture can become more spontaneous.

Another simple trick is to lift your chin so your neck is elongated. Practice glancing sideways at the mirror with your chin slightly raised. As the pose gets more natural, you can be sure you are free of the double-chin scare! Believe me – there is nothing worse than a perfect photo ruined by that unsightly layer of loose skin under the chin!

    Relax the arms

Most modern wedding dresses are sleeveless, so brides often wonder what to do with their arms. Some brides are self-conscious because they feel their upper arms are too flabby or simply not well-shaped. As a result, they usually press the arms tightly against the body, so they appear stiff and awkward.

To avoid the ‘’stiff arms’’ situation, you should lift your arms slightly and give room for your biceps and triceps to breathe. With the arm subtly lifted at the elbow, you will feel infinitely more comfortable. This pose is also excellent for holding your bouquet.

    Laugh spontaneously

Besides trying to relax your body, you should also relax your face. And what better way is there than to laugh out loud? Don’t cover your mouth with your hand when laughing – you should show off how happy you feel, not hide it!

    Strike the diva pose

It’s your wedding day, so naturally – all eyes are on you. Why not pull some camera-savvy red-carpet posing? I bet you are familiar with this pose: the body is slightly angled while the weight is mostly on the back foot. With one hand comfortably rested against the hip, the body looks slender and elegant.

Practice in front of the mirror and you’ll be ready to have your photo taken like a true diva!

    Smile with your eyes

Whenever your lips smile, your eyes should follow. In fact, one of the most delicate tricks of all is to smile from within rather than on the outside. It may sound silly, but try to visualize all the positive energy as a ray of soft light glowing inside you, and direct it towards your eyes. Let your eyes radiate all the love and happiness you are feeling and you will look irresistible.

    Prep your skin for makeup

For your skin to look fresh and have a natural glow, get a facial treatment a week before the big day. A deep-cleansing face mask will do the charm just as well. Make sure you don’t forget about it and then rush it in the last minute. Pimples tend to pop up the day after the treatment, so don’t make the mistake of doing the facial the day before your wedding.

Be careful with the fake tan

A good wedding photographer will advise you against the fake tan, as it often looks horrible in photos unless done professionally. If you decide to get a fake tan, go only for a slight hint of glow. And like the facial, tanning should be done at least a few days before the wedding.

    Forget about heavy makeup

The golden rule of wedding makeup is simple – don’t overdo it! Heavy makeup can get all cakey and your face will ultimately look like a mask. Choose a medium-to-high coverage foundation and go easy on the blusher and bronzer; otherwise, your wedding album will be full of photos of your orangey face.

Also, you should do a makeup trial before your big day. Ask your makeup artist about the contouring and cheek highlighters that will suit you best and try them out. Proper contouring and highlighting look flattering in photos without you even doing anything!

    Show off your pearly whites

You’ll be doing lots of genuine smiling for the camera, so don’t leave anything to chance. Remove excess plaque before you have your teeth professionally cleaned and whitened. Few things are as attractive and sophisticated as a radiant smile.

    Put your best face forward

Have you noticed that you simply look better from one side than the other? Browse through your photographs and see if there is a pattern. If you tend to look better photographed from the left, that’s where you should place hairpins or any other hair accessories, and make sure you are photographed from that side.

You should also ask your photographer for advice. The point is for you to feel comfortable as opposed to trying to strike a pose that feels unnatural. And remember – practice makes perfect!

    Get lots of beauty sleep

After you’ve made all the preparations, allow yourself enough time for sleeping. Although this sounds a bit crazy (of course you’ll be super excited and feel you could hardly sleep a wink!) – believe me, beauty sleep matters. Without it, there’s not much you can about the under-eye bags. Even if you manage to conceal the dark circles, trying to cover up the eye bags has never really worked out well for anybody.

    Get to know your photographer

You should perceive your wedding photographer as an extra wedding planner. Let your photographer in on the timetable for the day, so they know exactly where they need to be to capture all the important moments. You don’t want the additional stress of organizing who needs to stand where – let the photographer do their work.

Most importantly, you need to get comfortable with your photographer. Choose someone who can make you relax. If you feel self-conscious and uncomfortable, the photos will show.

    So remember…

This is the day when everyone is celebrating your love and the beginning of an exciting chapter in your life. Let go of self-consciousness and enjoy!
