  • Wedding Jewellery – Jon Richard Jewellery

So you have your dress, you have your shoes and next comes the often thorny issue of how to accessorise your wedding gown? Do you need jewellery or is your dress a statement enough? What should you look for when choosing jewellery to complement your dress? Is is “the bigger the better” or “less is more”? Well today we have advice from jewellery design company Jon Richard to guide you through the wedding jewellery minefield….

How long have you been designing jewellery?

Jon Richard was launched in 1985. Malcolm Stark, Founder and Chief Executive, realised the companies potential after discovering a niche in the market for design-led, competitively priced jewellery and accessories. This led to Malcolm teaming up with Managing Director Sarah Frew, in 1990 who had a strong design background obtained from previous roles at Ralph Lauren and Liberty of London.  The brand now boasts concessions in over 110 Debenhams stores and a range of other department stores such as, Elys, James Selby and Voisins. When we reached our 25th anniversary, we had a lovely gold twisted rope brooch product launch to mark the occasion!

What types of jewellery do you design and sell?

Jon Richard houses a range of collections and brings fashionable brands to our department stores, such as Jon Richard, Mood, Simply Silver, Devoted by Alan Hannah and Jon Richard made with SWAROVSI ELEMENTS.  We also design and source the jewellery ranges for Betty Jackson.Black, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson, Star by Julien Macdonald, Principles by Ben de Lisi and J by Jasper Conran. The jewellery we design for Jon Richard, Simply Silver and Swarovski Elements is designed with occasion in mind, therefore these collections are ideal for bridal, weddings, proms etc. MOOD and our Designers at Debenhams are based on trends from the catwalk, and are more fast fashion, stylish trend jewellery.

In relation to bridal jewellery what should a bride consider when choosing her accessories? i.e. hairstyles, dress types (as much info as possible on these points)

A bride needs to remember that on her Wedding day, her look will be captured ‘forever’ – in terms of photographs, videos and memories! So her style must be kept classic and chic to avoid any ‘dated’ looks. Hair can be styled up or down, however a striking crystal or pearl comb tucked into a side chignon or bun looks modern and sophisticated.

Tiaras are also a hair essential, which give a Princess-esque look with updo’s or down styles. In terms of the dress, you should always choose to suit your shape and pick a style which you adore and feel comfortable in. Sweetheart necklines ooze femininity and romance, and look gorgeous with a dainty pendant necklace to finish off the decollotage area. The jewellery should add a finishing touch to a bridal look, and not detract from the overall look, perfectly complementing hair styles, dresses and even the bouquets!

What is your favourite statement piece from your current bridal collection and why?

We have a number of collections that we retail every season, because they are so timeless and classic, designed to suit every bride and every look. These collections are called Grace, Lydia and Vine, which all feature a mix of silver plating, crystal and pearl, and will carry a bride’s look through to every season year after year!

However, for 2013 we have launched a special Gatsby inspired collection which features a Cubic Zirconia peardrop pendant necklace, earring and bracelet, which captures the glamour of the 1920’s art deco era. It adds a more dramatic, statement look to a bride, and we love it! It has recently featured on the front cover of WEDDING.

Thankyou to Jon Richard for their insight and fabulous jewellery. What accessories are you choosing for your wedding? Would love to hear from you. Bye for now, Jenny.
